The organizing committee has cancelled the final day of the Tokyo Game Show 2026 as Typhoon Dujuan fast approaches Japan.
TGS is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To make the moment even more special, for the first time ever, the annual event was set to be held over five days.
What began on September 17 as a celebration of gaming has been cut short. Currently on day three of its scheduled five-day run, the TGS 2026 will no longer make it to its September 21 conclusion, courtesy of an approaching Typhoon Dujuan.
Strong winds and heavy rain are expected from the afternoon of September 21, which makes getting home safely a major question. As of now, the typhoon is on Japan’s southern coast and slowly gaining strength.
Looking at the whole situation, the PR office of the Tokyo Game Show announced that the event will now end on Sunday instead of Monday.

Tokyo Game Show 2026: Sunday’s Agenda
As per the PR office’s announcement, 20th September will be the last day of TGS 2026. The events on Sunday will proceed as they were scheduled.
In the early hours of the event, the latest news from Cinderia will be showcased. Following that, we will see the Japan Game Awards 2026 “Future Division” announcement and awards ceremony take place.
The Touken Ranbu ONLINE × Touken Ranbu Pazugiri Special Stage is also a major highlight on 20th September.
During the general hours, the exhibition halls will be open for hands-on gameplay, booths, and special streaming segments across official platforms.
Will the tickets for the Tokyo Game Show 2026 be refunded?
On 19th September 2026, @tokyo_game_show took to their official X account to announce the final-day cancellation of the event.
Regarding the cancellation of the final day, the event organizers mentioned that the tickets for 21st September will be refunded to the ticket holders.
“Tickets for September 21 (Mon, Holiday) will be refunded. Please check the refund procedures announced by each ticket sales platform from which you made your purchase. Details will also be announced on the official website once confirmed, said the organizers.
As of now, it seems that the organizers are planning to make arrangements to move select Monday events online.
Last Word on Tokyo Game Show 2026 Final Day Cancellation
Since the Tokyo Game Show 2026 marked a major milestone with the five-day event format to celebrate the 30th anniversary, the cancellation of the final day is certainly disappointing.
Even if they manage to move some of the major features of the event online, the cancellation will impact community celebrations, public demos, and localized fan experiences.
However, the safety of the attendees, developers, and staff is non-negotiable. Given the circumstances, cancelling the final day is certainly the best call from the organizers.
