In a recently released video on Clash Royale’s official YouTube channel, Supercell reveals why a Hog Rider nerf is not on the table anytime soon despite casual gamers and pros asking for it repeatedly.
Over the years, Hog Rider has been a common card in every player’s deck due to its target type and speed. With recent nerfs to defensive spells and buildings, the 4-elixir troop is even more overpowered, as per the community.
Clash Royale’s recent series of balance changes further weakened the counters of the Hog Rider. Naturally, there has been a rise in the ground-type card’s use in trophy road and other formats.
Both casual players and pros have repeatedly raised concerns, demanding to know why Supercell refuses to nerf the card.
On 19th September 2026, Supercell finally broke the silence on the matter, stating it is their baseline balance card.

Why Hog Rider Card Won’t Be Getting a Nerf Anytime Soon
Defending a Hog Rider requires perfect timing and positioning, and players cannot afford to lose their focus even for a moment.
When the Hog Rider is paired with the newly buffed Ice Golem and the new hero card, things get even more complicated.
As of now, the Hog Rider card has only been nerfed twice, with the last changes taking place back in December 2017.
On the latest YouTube video, the panel made it clear that we are not getting a Hog Rider nerf anytime soon.
When the host asked why the team will never nerf Hog Rider despite non-stop player feedback, the panel mentioned that the game needs a fixed benchmark to balance everything else around. And for them, the Hog Rider is that baseline card.
The developers believe if they start nerfing cards like the Hog Rider or the Balloon, the game will become too slow. It will stretch the quick games to 4-5 minutes.
The panel mentioned that they feel the Hog Rider card is perfectly balanced. However, it is the other cards surrounding it that make it appear stronger.
For example, the Canon and Tesla nerfs make the Hog Rider look stronger now. On the other hand, the buffs on Ice Golem make the Hog Rider even harder to defend when these two are paired.
Last Word on No Hog Rider Nerf in Clash Royale
This is a perfect decision from Supercell as nerfing troops like Hog Rider and the Balloon will surely slow down the pace of the game. Moreover, it is unfair to casual players who just put Hog Rider in casual decks.
But it’s not all bad news for the competitive community. Supercell has plans to balance things for the players.
Supercell plans to buff/nerf other cards instead, giving players better defensive tools and encouraging new strategies outside of the Hog Rider meta. Moreover, they plan to target the specific supporting cards in fast-cycling decks that high-level players abuse to play the Hog Rider over and over again.
