Supercell Faces Backlash Over Impending ‘Clash of Clans’ Thrower Nerf

Arijit Das September 17, 2026

Supercell receives massive heat from the community after their recent Clash of Clans Thrower nerf, which is arriving next week. Nobody saw it coming when Clash of Clans took to its official X account to announce an upcoming Thrower nerf. The ground troop is expected to receive reductions in its HP, speed, movement, and damage per second.

In July 2026, we saw the last troop nerf in the game when the Dragon Rider saw slight HP and damage reduction at top level. The community’s response to the change was a mix of initial uproar and relief.

However, unlike the balance changes in July, September’s latest adjustments to Thrower largely received a negative reaction from the community.

Why Supercell is Nerfing Thrower in Clash of Clans

In the official X post, Supercell explained the reason behind nerfing Thrower in Clash of Clans.

As per them, Throwers are single-handedly making up close to 33% of all army compositions across both competitive ranked play and normal clan wars.

With a 64% three-star rate, thrower strategies are completely outclassing other army options.

While they do not completely want to destroy the meta, Supercell mentioned that they want to make enough changes to give other strategies more space.

Here’s a look at what’s changing with Thrower:

  • Movement speed: 18 → 16
  • DPS at levels 3–4: 230/240 → 220/230
  • HP at levels 3–4: 2600/2800 → 2500/2650

Clash of Clans Community Reactions to Thrower Nerf

The Clash community didn’t take long to share their disappointment with the update.

The majority of the player base believes that the balance change was rather unnecessary given there are so many things in the game that need more focus than the Thrower.

@JayTheRipperAU and others took to the comment section of Supercell’s post to suggest that the game should focus on the feedback of the majority of the community instead of 1% of the player base.

@shaunmeasom summed it up for the players who agree that it is a waste to nerf the only ground attack that is worth using at maxed Town Hall level.

As per @AgustinLage and other players, there are other troops and siege machines that need balance changes.

Last Word on Clash of Clans Thrower Nerf

It is certainly understandable that Clash of Clans wants to make other attacking strategies more relevant.

As this single strategy carries a massive 64% win rate, the game is bound to get boring soon, ultimately killing creativity among attacking strategies.

Moreover, Supercell isn’t completely destroying the troop, as they are lowering the speed, HP, and damage just a tiny bit.

All eyes will now be on how the attack strategy performs after the balance changes go live next week.
