Songs of the Past is an upcoming expansion pack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, slated to release sometime in 2027. It will be the third add-on in the monster-hunting RPG following the critically acclaimed Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood and Wine (2016) DLCs. Arriving more than a decade after the original game’s release, this expansion aims to bring longtime fans back to the Continent and accompany Geralt of Rivia in his adventures.
CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory are collaborating to bring Songs of the Past on both modern consoles and desktops. Fool’s Theory has a team of veteran developers who previously created elements for Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3, and with their RPG expertise, they are a natural fit for expanding The Witcher universe.

Songs of the Past is not going to deviate from the game’s central mechanic: the choice-based system. Throughout the new story, players will need to select dialogues and decisions that have consequences all over the region, creating different endings. According to the official Songs of the Past page, you will control Geralt as he tries to defeat a long-dormant evil “across a story filled with choices and consequences, where the fate of the entire land, and even Geralt’s closest friendship, are also at risk.”

Letten
All action in the upcoming expansion will be set in Letten. Untouched by the Northern War III, this idyllic region is located in northern Redania, on the southern bank of the Nimnar River, lying halfway between Kovir and Kaedwen. It is the homeland of the Dandelion, who also holds estates in this region from the earnings he gained as a bard.
Story and events
In the Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Geralt is last seen in Toussaint, attempting to solve the murders of many nobles. Depending on your choices, the White Wolf ends up in prison or fighting a vampire named Detlaff across several challenging phases.
Geralt retired in Toussaint. However, in the Songs of the Past expansion, he will pick up his swords again to assist Dandelion and his cousin, Lilla, in his homeland of Letten. As the duo journeys across the land of grand harvests and festivals, they will slowly uncover a supernatural plot.
The Belletyn festival
During the Gamescom 2026 Showcase, the developers revealed over 10 minutes of Songs of the Past gameplay footage in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. At the very beginning, Geralt sails to the Boatwright’s Workshop while wearing the traditional outfit for the Belletyn festival.
Belletyn is an important local tradition where the people of Letten celebrate fertility and a good harvest. Some of the quests could be tied to this tradition, allowing players to immerse themselves in the festivities and get familiar with the people’s beliefs and customs.
The Garden of Thorns
Compared to the idyllic setting of Letten, the Garden of Thorns is much murkier and haunting, containing creatures and secrets like the Lettenhove family legend. The garden is infested with Thornblooms, which are plant-like monsters that spit acid and wrap around humans, and Swarmions, skeleton-like creatures that attack like Nekkers and protect themselves with a swarm of hornets.
Chain
The most striking addition in Songs of the Past is the Chain weapon. A replacement for the Crossbow, the Chain lets you hack, slash, and even drag enemies towards Geralt. You can hold the Chain and point the crosshair at the enemy before releasing it on the prey.
The Chain is particularly useful in deactivating the shield of hornets around Swarmions. If you use a sword while the hornets are around the monster, Geralt will receive damage and be briefly stunned.
English voice actors
Doug Cockle will return to voice Geralt of Rivia while John Schwab will reprise his role as Dandelion. It is unknown whether Yennefer (voiced by Denise Gough) and Triss Merigold (voiced by Jaimi Barbakoff) will appear in the upcoming DLC.
