The Blood of Dawnwalker Surpasses 1 Million Copies Sold in Just a Few Days

The launch of The Blood of Dawnwalker appears to have exceeded Rebel Wolves’ expectations. The studio’s debut title has surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide, just days after launching on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The milestone is even more significant considering this is a completely new IP and the first project from Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by former CD Projekt Red developers. The game is an action RPG that puts players in control of Coen, a Dawnwalker who remains human during the day and gains vampiric powers at night.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Also Gets Off to a Strong Start on Steam

In addition to its strong sales, the RPG has been posting impressive numbers on PC. Data available through Steam’s database shows a peak of more than 64,000 concurrent players on the platform alone, reached shortly after launch.

Player reception has also been mostly positive. At the time of writing, around 80% of reviews on the platform recommended the game, earning The Blood of Dawnwalker a “Very Positive” user review rating. Some of the criticism, however, has focused on technical inconsistencies, including FPS drops and general optimization issues.

Released in early September, The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world action RPG set in 14th-century Europe. One of the adventure’s key mechanics is its passage-of-time system, in which certain decisions and activities move the story forward and can affect subsequent events.

The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The Last Word on The Blood of Dawnwalker

The game’s performance is particularly impressive considering it’s a brand-new IP, although Rebel Wolves’ pedigree certainly helped lower that barrier. The studio is home to several veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3, while the concept of a dark open-world RPG built around choices and a structure that changes between day and night directly appeals to fans of the genre.

Another important factor was the anticipation built around the project. The Blood of Dawnwalker spent years being presented as an alternative to today’s biggest RPGs and managed to launch with considerable interest surrounding it, something its early Steam numbers and first million copies sold only help confirm.
