Nintendo’s recent success with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has left fans wanting more. Unfortunately, it was announced today that the movie would be delayed until May 7th, 2027.

The regrettable news was confirmed by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto on X. Detailing the main reason for the delay is due to “production reasons”. He continued by saying that they will “take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be”.

Although the highly anticipated live-action film faced a delay, its original release was scheduled for March 26th that year. This pushes the film back 6 weeks which gives the production team valuable time to further polish the final product.

Director Wes Ball, best known for his work on The Maze Runner franchise and most recently in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Currently, no actors have been publicly announced for the cast of the film. Fans have been speculating on various actresses to fit the role of titular character Princess Zelda. Most popular being Hunter Schafer which has come with support and pushback.
