The Game Awards were a newsworthy show. Last Word on Gaming has a rundown of all The Game Awards announcements from the 2021 show. Let’s jump right into it.

The Game Awards: Announcements From The 2021 Show Pre-Show

TUNIC: Release Date

The announcements started early as the trailer for TUNIC played in the pre-show. From Finji Studios the indie action platformer trailer aired in the first part of the pre-show. The game will release March 16th on Xbox One and Series X/S. It will be a timed exclusive. The game was first announced at the E3 PC Gaming Show in 2017.

The King of Fighters 15 Beta 

A second open beta for the King of Fighters 15 trailer aired in the pre-show. The beta will open up on December 18th for PS4 and PS5. The game will release on February 17th for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre

A trailer for the online game based on the movie franchise was announced. No concrete release date is available as of this writing. The trailer featured the iconic villain Leatherface and the signature chainsaw.

Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3 will be arriving in Q4 2022.  A trailer for the PC real-time strategy game from Gearbox aired during The Game Awards pre-show. This will be the sequel to Homeworld 2 which was released in 2003.

Telltale: Expanse 

A new entry in the Telltale series was announced. The dark sci-fi trailer for The Expanse aired. The game will be based on The Amazon Series of the same name.

Babylons Fall

From Square Enix came a trailer for Babylons Fall. Coming March 3rd, early access is available if you pre-order the digital deluxe edition, you will be able to play start playing on February 28th.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

Releasing in the Summer of 2022 will be a massive expansion to Monster Hunter Rise. The trailer gave a sneak peek at the new expansion as well as new Ambioo figures that will release alongside the expansion.

Thirsty Suitors

A story-driven RPG dealing with the main character and her various rough past relationships was announced during the pre-show.

Evil West: Gameplay Premiere

Announced last year at The Game Awards, we now have a gameplay trailer for Evil West. The game will be released next year with no concrete date announced as of this writing.

Have A Nice Death 

The 2D sidescroller will have early access in March of 2022. The trailer showed a comedic twist to the game and its reaper-looking main character.

Planet of Lana

The sci-fi-themed game will release in 2022. It features music from composer Takeshi Furukawa.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

The fighting game from the Persona series will be released on March 17th on Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

The Game Awards: Announcements From The 2021 Main Show

Hellblade 2 Senau’s Saga : Gameplay Trailer 

Announced a couple of years ago at The Game Awards, we saw a gameplay trailer for Hellblade 2. The sequel to Hellblade Senau’s Sacrifice played like a movie with truly breathtaking cinematic looks.

Star Wars Eclipse 

The Lucas logo came over The Game Awards as viewers were shown a cinematic Star Wars trailer packed with plenty of action. Star Wars Eclipse was revealed as the title that will take place in the High Republic era. The game is currently in early development with no release date.

Wonder Women 

From Warner Brothers and DC came a brief cinematic trailer for an upcoming Wonder Women game. The trailer featured a dark background with a voice-over and brief looks at the iconic DC superhero.

Alan Wake 2 

A short cinematic trailer for Alan Wake 2 with a release date of 2023. The game is a follow-up to the original Alan Wake which was released in 2010. The game will take a survival horror twist on the franchise. More information will be released in the summer of 2022.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Movie Trailer 

A trailer for the new Sonic The Hedgehog movie premiered alongside a video message from Jim Carrey. Famous characters such as Sonic, Tails, Dr. Robotnik, and Knuckles were a part of the trailer.

Horizon Forbidden West Trailer 

The much anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn had a new trailer premiere at The Game Awards. Aloy was seen battling new machines in snow, air, and water environments. A voiceover from Aloy mentioned the machines are out of control. The game will release in February on Playstation 4 and 5.

Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade Come To PC

The PlayStation 5 timed exclusive will make its way to PC. The trailer showed familiar faces from Final Fantasy 7 including Cloud, Tifa, Yuffie, and Sepiroth. It will be available on PC on December 16th.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

The expansion to the looter shooter from Bungie will take place on Mars. The footage was taken from the first mission in the game. The expansion will release on February 22nd, 2022.

Slitterhead 

From the creator of Silent Hill, the action-horror game showed some terrifying creatures to battle. Slitterhead showed humans transforming into some terrifying skeleton creatures. No release date was announced as of this writing.

Nightingale 

A brand new franchise the survival crafting game will be shared world with an emphasis on exploration and community building. The trailer featured in-game footage and early access will be on PC next year.

Lord of The Rings Gollum

A trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was revealed during the show. The game was scheduled to release in 2021 but was delayed until 2022. It will release for PC, PlayStation  Nintendo Switch, and Xbox in 2022.

PUBG Goes Free To  Play 

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will become free to play on January 12th, 2022. The game will have a paid tier that offers more perks to gamers.

Cuphead The Delicious Last Course 

The DLC for Cuphead will be available on June 30th, 2022.

Sonic Frontiers 

The next entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series was announced. Sonic Frontiers will be out Holiday season of 2022 for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Tchia

A trailer for Tchia aired at The Game Awards. The open-world adventure game will release in Spring 2022 for PlayStation 4 and 5 exclusively.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Trailer 

As the trailer was about to roll Geoff Keighley was cut off by “Amanda Waller” who let us all know that we are not allowed to say a word about Task Force X. From Rocksteady the trailer rolled featuring characters from the famous DC antiheroes, the squad’s goal is made clear early, kill The Flash. Taking control of different members of Task Force X gamers can experience Suicide Squad in 2022 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Forspoken Release Date 

Forspoken will have a release date of May 24th, 2022 on the PlayStation 5 and PC. A new trailer for the action role-playing game premiered at the show. The game will see gamers take control of Frey Holland as she is transported from New York to Athia and must find her way home using magic powers.

Warhammer 40,00 Space Marine

A sequel to Warhammer 40,000 that was released in 2011 gamers will see players taking control of Captin Titus. The game will release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Dune Spice Wars 

The real-time strategy game is based on the Dune franchise. The game will release for PC in 2022.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Release Date 

A trailer for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands aired. The first-person action-adventure game full of over-the-top animated characters and is a spinoff from Borderlands. The game will release March 25th, 2022, and is available to pre-order now.

Star Tek Resurgence

Star Tek Resurgence will release on PlayStation and Xbox. The game will see players take part in decision-based gameplay set within the Star Trek universe.

Rumbleverse 

A larger-than-life animated wrestling game that sees characters brawling from the streets to the rooftops and using classic wrestling weapons had a trailer during the show. Sign up for early access for Rumbleverse is available now. The game will release on Xbox and PlayStation in 2022.

A Plague Tale Requiem: Gameplay Trailer

New gameplay footage was revealed for A Plague Tale Requiem. The game was first announced earlier in 2021 at E3. The action/adventure game is expected to be released in 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Switch.

New Trailer: Dying Light 2: CG Trailer 

A new CG trailer for Dying Light 2 showed off more of the story elements of the game. It will release on February 4th, 2022. Pre-orders are available now and include in-game character bonuses.

GTFO Surprise Release 

GTFO was first announced at The Game Awards four years ago. The game has been in early access on Steam since. GTFO was surprise-released during an interview at this year’s Game Awards. A trailer for the co-op horror game aired following the announcement.

First Look: Halo Television Show

A trailer for the live-action Halo television show gave gamers a look at the Master Chief in live-action. The show will stream exclusively on Paramount Plus.

New Elden Ring Trailer 

After winning Most Anticipated Game for a second year in a row a new trailer rolled for Elden Ring. The trailer was narrated and gave gamers an insight into a bit of the story for the highly anticipated role playing game. The game will release February 25th, 2022.

Google Play Mobile Games 

Google will bring Android Gaming Service to PC in 2022. Gamers will be able to play games on their phone and pick them back up on their PC.

ARC Raiders

A free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter that involves battling machines that have taken to the sky. The trailer featured in-game footage it will be released in 2022 on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The Matrix Awaks 

An exclusive trailer for Matrix Resurrections was presented by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. The brief trailer showed Neo making his way through a train and eventually meeting again with Morpheus.

The cast next revealed a new Matrix game called The Maxtrix Awakens. The game can be downloaded now for free on PlayStation and Xbox. The brief trailer showed plenty of action and gunfights from vehicles like previous Matrix games.
