Sony announced the Prism Collection on Wednesday (28), a new line of PlayStation 5 accessories that brings back one of the most iconic gaming trends of the 1990s: transparent controllers and consoles. The collection includes three color options for both the DualSense controller and PS5 console covers, allowing users to see part of the internal structure through the translucent materials.
Sony Brings Back the Look of Classic Transparent Controllers
The new models will be available in Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray. All three feature a glossy finish and translucent materials, and combine a modern look with clear references to classic accessories from previous generations. The collection will begin launching on February 4, 2027, while pre-orders will open on November 10, 2026, in participating markets.
According to PlayStation designer Leo Cardoso, the idea came from players’ interest in seeing transparent controllers make a comeback, a style that was especially popular in the late 1990s. The goal was to reinterpret that aesthetic in a way that fits the PS5’s industrial design, rather than simply recreating older accessories.
The final design lets players see internal elements of the DualSense through its translucent shell. The finish also extends to the back of the controller, while the center section features metallic details to create contrast between the different surfaces.
Satoshi Aoyagi, another member of the team responsible for colors and materials, explained that each shade was chosen to create a different visual effect. The orange version can show pinkish tones where the transparent materials overlap. The green model gains extra depth as light passes through it, while the gray version goes for a more subtle and sophisticated appearance.
Last Word on the New PS5 Controllers and Console Covers
Sony has confirmed the suggested international pricing for the Prism Collection accessories. The DualSense controllers will retail for $84.99, while the PS5 console covers will have a suggested price of $74.99.
The console covers will be sold directly through PlayStation in markets where the company operates its own hardware store. In other regions, they will be available in limited quantities through selected retailers. Pre-orders will begin on November 10 at 10 a.m. local time in participating markets, although some countries will have specific opening times.
Sony also noted that release dates and availability may vary by region.
