Ubisoft has announced a special collaboration between two of the best-known platforming franchises. Rayman Legends Retold, which launches for PlayStation 5 on December 3, 2026, will let players dress Rayman in an outfit inspired by Astro Bot, the character that has carved out a place of its own among PlayStation’s most recognizable mascots.
How Was Astro Bot’s Outfit for Rayman Created?
The outfit will be exclusive to the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions and will be available for free the first time players visit Victor Velour’s shop, where the protagonist can change outfits in the game.
The collaboration also works as a mutual tribute between the two series. In 2024, Rayman appeared as one of the guest characters in Astro Bot. Now, it is Ubisoft’s hero who gets a reference to Team Asobi’s little robot.
The new look was developed in collaboration between Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi. In an interview published on the PlayStation Blog, the teams behind the crossover explained that adapting Astro Bot to Rayman’s world required finding a balance between two very different art styles.
Astro Bot has a futuristic design defined by metallic surfaces, glossy materials, and glowing details, while Rayman has a more cartoon-like and organic appearance. According to lead character artist Quentin Chaillet, the team wanted to preserve the robot’s most recognizable elements without compromising Rayman’s own identity. That meant adapting proportions, materials, and visual details to Rayman’s unusual body shape, famously made up of disconnected hands and feet.
The final result aims to combine Astro Bot’s colors and technological elements with Rayman’s traditional expressiveness.
Last Word on Rayman and Astro Bot
For Guillaume Arvieu, art and world director on Rayman Legends Retold, the two franchises share more than just the platforming genre. The developer highlighted the creativity of their environments, the variety of interactions, and the sense of discovery both games offer. According to him, both franchises constantly try to surprise players with new ideas while emphasizing fluid movement and the exploration of colorful worlds.
Arvieu also pointed to the importance of collaborations like this in bringing different generations together. Rayman has a long history in gaming, including strong ties to the original PlayStation era, while Astro Bot represents a much newer generation of PlayStation characters. The crossover therefore works both as a tribute to the history of platform games and as an opportunity to introduce these universes to new audiences.
Alongside the special outfit, Rayman Legends Retold promises a reimagined take on Ubisoft’s classic, featuring revamped visuals, a reworked story, new musical stages, and a brand-new region to explore. The game will also keep its focus on shared fun, with local cooperative multiplayer for up to four players.
Rayman Legends Retold launches on December 3, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
