Grand Theft Auto 6 is just one month away from release, but that hasn’t stopped a group known as “Cyberleek” from attempting to spoil Rockstar’s plans. After leaking footage ahead of GTA 6’s official Netflix reveal, the group has continued its efforts by uploading another 25 minutes of gameplay which shows off sex scenes. Now, the group is demanding Rockstar Games reverse its plans on being a digital-only release, or it will reportedly leak a full playable build of the game online.
What Did Cyberleek Demand From Rockstar?
Screen capped on ResetEra, Cyberleek posted a message to its website that reads, “Here’s the deal, nice and clean. CYBERLEEK hits 30 million marketcap, the build goes out — full story mode, played to the end, credits and all. Don’t believe it has full story mode? Ask for what you want to see, and it gets provided. Take-Two gets one way out: physical disks and a public apology. They can take it at any moment. Or they can gamble that CL is bluffing. Everyone knows which one they’ll pick.”
For those out of the loop, Cyberleek has its own cryptocurrency that it has been hocking alongside leaked footage from GTA 6. As should be evident by now, this is all some scheme to boost the market value of Cyberleek, so the group can cash out. The value of the currency has fairly high before Rockstar released official footage, which subsequently sent the value plummeting.
Does A Leaked Build Really Exist?
This one is hard to answer, but I personally don’t believe Cyberleek has anything concrete. Video footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 wouldn’t be impossible to get as employees at Rockstar could be secretly leaking clips. Having a fully playable build, even if it is a beta version, would be much harder to come by. Outlet TechSpot notes that people have been taking advantage of this situation by releasing malware online labeled as GTA 6, which could be the real endgame here. Cyberleeks could be stoking the flames of public attention to infect computers around the world by claiming to have something playable. Still, the videos it has released are fairly legitimate looking, so who really knows?
What Has Rockstar Said?
Rockstar has not responded to this current demand from Cyberleeks, but in the past few weeks, it has stated it is “heartbroken” over footage being revealed ahead of official promotion. The company released a lengthy statement on Twitter addressing the leaks, saying, “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”
Last Word On Cyberleeks’ Demand
Ultimately, this entire story feels like a publicity stunt from Cyberleeks to drum up hype for its cryptocurrency nonsense. Leaks are nothing new in the gaming world, nor are demands from leakers to publishers and developers, but this truly comes off like a person taking advantage of one of the most anticipated game launches in history. People are desperate for their own 15 minutes of fame, made worse by social media, but that doesn’t excuse flaunting your own crypto crap to cash in on other people’s hard work. Rockstar Games deserves scrutiny for some of its workplace practices, but the staff creating this game shouldn’t have their work stolen and leaked by a jerk who merely seeks attention.
