Marvel Rivals released Gorr the God Butcher as a playable character in Season 10. The blasphemous Butcher joined the packed roster as a Duelist, a role that is already cluttered. Ironically enough, he will be the only playable character coming to the game this season, as the mid-season update will focus on the Phase 3 and Phase 4 Avengers events ahead of Avengers Doomsday’s release later this year.
While some would argue that Gorr the God Butcher isn’t good enough to carry a whole season on his own, others disagree. So, how exactly does Thor’s arch-nemesis fit into the overall meta of Marvel Rivals? Let’s find out.
Gorr the God Butcher’s Struggle in Marvel Rivals
Dive players are constantly telling the community that their role isn’t meta. Well, they aren’t completely wrong. Marvel Rivals heavily relies on poke heroes, with some outshining nearly the entire roster in terms of damage, healing, and even tanking. While dive typically counters poke, it doesn’t always seem that way in NetEase’s 6v6 hero shooter.
Gorr the God Butcher, who doesn’t have enough survivability to brawl, has to mainly target “squishy” characters (below 300 HP) to get the most value out of his kit. Bonus points if you are targeting the enemy Strategists because they won’t have enough tools to get rid of Gorr.
However, the new playable villain in Marvel Rivals doesn’t do enough damage on his own to be a good solo diver on your team if you are playing in high elo. Moreover, Gorr the God Butcher also has a big weakness. His cooldowns can be incredibly punishing if things don’t go according to plan. There is little room to improvise, unlike some other dive heroes who can at least run away from the scene in case things go south.
So, if you are a Marvel Rivals player who has been trying to fit Gorr the God Butcher into the new “meta”, he wouldn’t be the optimal pick. However, running a full dive composition or at least having one other dive partner can help him fit in the game easily.
