Instead of a routine sequel, a new and really ambitious Far Cry game has entered development, as per the latest information from an industry insider. The community is yet to receive any official update on Far Cry 7. Amid this wait, Ubisoft is planning to introduce an open-world FPS game.

@_Tom_Henderson_ took to his official X (formerly Twitter) to share the news with the community on 27th July 2026.

As of now, the game is no longer an idea, as it is currently being developed by Ubisoft’s subsidiary, Vantage Studios. However, the new Far Cry game leak is bittersweet news for the community, as another Far Cry extraction shooter title, which was already in development, has been cancelled.

Codenamed Kodiak, the new project is expected to follow the franchise’s traditional first-person shooter formula with a strong focus on player choice and emergent storytelling, as per Insider Gaming.

What to expect from the new Far Cry game?

As the extraction shooter of Ubisoft codenamed Maverick has been internally cancelled, the new Far Cry game will directly replace it. Even though it is an open-world FPS game, codename Kodiak shares some foundations with Maverick.

While the new Far Cry game has entered development, as of now, no official dates for the game have been shared. Therefore, it is unclear how Kodiak lines up in the franchise.

In addition to that, another new Far Cry game codenamed Blackbird is set to be in the plans. Despite delays, the game is still in the works.

In Blackbird, the players would have to rescue their kidnapped family member from a conspiracy cult. There are also some multiplayer mechanics present. However, it is recommended to take these with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed.

Despite all the leaks surfacing, it will be a while till we see the release of a new Far Cry game.
