Top 5 Best Young Defensive Midfielders to Sign in Football Manager 2024

Eduardo Camavinga

Real Madrid have one of the best midfield cores in the world and Camavinga’s versatility is a big part of that. He’s a ball winning midfielder at heart who can break up attacks and get his team forward.

Enzo Fernandez

More of a pass-first DM option Fernandez works best in a double pivot. His passing skills are out of this world, as is the fee you’d have to offer Chelsea to sign him.

Sandro Tonali

From AC Milan to Newcastle to a real-life ban Tonali is an incredibly talented midfielder but one that Newcastle aren’t likely to part with.

Moises Caicedo

Chelsea’s record-breaking signing is an elite destroyer who showed his worth time and again with Brighton & Hove Albion. Chelsea are unlikely to sell but if you can convince them, you’ll have a monster on your hands.

Vitinha

Probably the easiest name on the list to sign, despite having to pry him away from PSG. Vitinha is in the Fernandez mold of being an excellent passer from deep positions and will work best next to someone who can handle defensive duties.

FM24 Best Young Defensive Midfielders – Affordable/Budget

Danilo

Potentially stretching the definition of budget but Danilo is a must-get if you have the funds. At 22, he’s previously been courted by teams like Arsenal and currently lines out for Premier League side Nottingham Forest. He’s primarily a deep lying playmaker but he can also be a standard defensive midfielder if needed.

Andre

Liverpool look likely to snap up Andre in reality so get him while you can in FM24. He’s got all the right skills to make an impression at the DM spot with his defensive abilities, physical attributes, and passing range. He’s got great potential and starts the game as a fairly useful player.

Kees Smit

Currently on the books for AZ Alkmaar, Kees Smit is a 17-year-old midfielder who looks like he can be on the Enzo/Vitinha trajectory of being a great passing DM. He’s already got a 14 first touch rating and 13 tackling while his 14 tackling means he will get stuck in when needed.

Victor Eletu

18-year-old AC Milan midfielder Eletu is one to keep eyes on. He has great natural fitness and some defensive tenacity. Depending on what role you play him in he can either be a more technical DM or a defensive presence which makes him a great addition to any team.

Giacomo Faticanti

The 17-year-old prospect from Lecce will be an absolute bargain once he fulfills his potential. He’s already a solid ball winning midfielder with solid passing skills. As his technical skills develop and he continues to improve his stamina he’ll become the engine for your team.
