What AEW Fight Forever Has to Get Right

Published on:

AEW Fight Forever is set to release soon, marking All Elite Wrestling‘s first trek into the world of video games. Since the release of IMPACT! Wrestling’s game there has been something of a gap in the market for wrestling video games featuring major promotions. Some have tried to fill the gap while others focused on simulation aspects but AEW is our first real hope of an alternative to WWE 2K. In this article, I will be detailing what AEW Fight Forever has to get right with this release if they want to make an impression.

Things AEW Fight Forever Must Get Right

Career Mode

Since the beginning of its development, AEW has hung its hat on this game having a fantastic career mode. With Kenny Omega being well-known as a huge fan of video games, his involvement brought with it the hopes that he’d be able to bring some of his own likes and dislikes into the career mode.

To this day many WWE games are remembered for their career modes. WWE 12 is still brought up today due to its storylines, earlier SmackDown vs Raw titles had zany season modes that felt like they were right out of WWE television. Even MyRISE in recent 2K releases has garnered praise for being much better than the paltry offerings of early 2K titles.

If AEW want to make an impact with their first video game offering then an excellent career mode is essential to getting their foot in the door.

Gameplay

More important than anything the gameplay has to be good. A wrestling game can only survive on bells and whistles for so long. When push comes to shove and you’re sat at home playing this game alone or with others the key will be how much fun you all have while actually wrestling.

The brief glimpses we have seen indicate that this title is going for a more action-packed, exaggerated style of gameplay compared to WWE 2K’s more methodical simulation basis. This is a style that has worked very well for wrestling games in the past and could be the standout feature of AEW Fight Forever.

Establish an Identity

Nobody is expecting this to be a 10 out of 10 game or an industry-changing title. What AEW Fight Forever needs to do more than anything else is establish an identity. Something that sets their games apart from other titles on the market and that can be built upon over time. Will that be total freedom for violence? Will it be a detailed and fascinating career mode that has people hooked? Will it be a roster of wrestlers from around the world that can’t be found anywhere else? We will have to wait and see.
