4-3-3
One of the more successful formations in this years game is the 4-3-3. It is a classic formation that was once used by most major teams but has lost favor in recent years for the 3-4-3 and other such setups. FM didn’t get the memo however and has made the 4-3-3 one of the best formations you can use.
The specifics will make or break how successful this formation is but it has the versatility to work with Gegenpress, control, counter, and tiki-taka styles of football.

4-2-3-1
Another OP formation from this year’s football manager is another one that had its heyday about a decade ago when it felt like every top team was desperate to pick up a generational number 10. This formation works really well with controlled possession-based tactics in FM23 but has enough room to work with the Gegenpress setup.
4-2-4
I’ve been surprised by the success of this avant-garde tactic in this year’s game. When it comes to the best Football Manager 2023 tactics, this is probably the one that will bring you the most success. Most of the successful lineups use the two midfielders as defensive midfielders while the four attackers tend to be used to overload the box and score goals.
