CONTROL Resonant Update 1.4.0 Adds New Game++ and Major Quality-of-Life Fixes

Remedy Entertainment has released Game Update 1.4.0 for CONTROL Resonant, adding unlimited New Game++ runs alongside a substantial collection of quality-of-life improvements, performance optimizations and bug fixes.

The update makes several progression systems easier to understand, reduces the amount of combat in Unknown Zones, and improves everything from HDR and controller support to map markers, audio and quests.

Remedy said it’s pleased with the game’s stability since launch but acknowledged “there’s always more to improve and fix, especially in a game of this size and ambition.”

CONTROL Resonant Update 1.4.0 Adds New Game++

The headline addition is New Game++, which allows players to continue replaying CONTROL Resonant for an unlimited number of runs rather than reaching the end of its existing New Game+ progression. That should give players more reason to continue experimenting with different builds and upgrades, as well as try to unlock more achievements, after completing the campaign, particularly alongside several changes designed to make progression easier to track.

Build Power is now displayed directly on the Loadout screen rather than being hidden inside the Stats & Effects menu. Remedy notes that fighting enemies above Dylan’s current Power level makes combat considerably more difficult, giving players a clearer indication of when they may need to complete side quests, explore Manhattan or improve their equipment.

The number of available save slots on the main menu has also increased from five to seven, helping players keep original campaign saves and multiple New Game+ runs separate.

Rewards have additionally been adjusted so players can max out every Zone more easily during New Game+, while some SHÜM Challenge score requirements have been reduced.

Quality-of-Life Changes Make Progression Easier to Track

Update 1.4.0 makes several smaller changes designed to reduce time spent navigating menus or searching for information. This includes tweaking the HUD so it now displays a notification when new items or upgrades are available in The Gap. Players can also pin materials needed for upgrades and see whether those resources are currently available from a Vendor by checking its map icon, removing the need to travel there first. Map markers have received numerous fixes to stop icons remaining visible after objectives have been completed or appearing in incorrect locations.

Remedy has also added a dedicated radio dialogue volume slider, allowing players to balance dialogue between speakers or headphones and the DualSense controller speaker. Streamers and content creators now have another useful audio option, too. A new “Mute copyrighted music” setting disables Apocalyptica’s “Upperhand” during the opening credits.

Assist Mode has been expanded with a Power Core Charge Duration setting offering a 100% to 300% multiplier, while a new tutorial explains that the Rush ability can remove status effects.

Unknown Zones Get Less Combat

One of the more significant balancing changes affects Unknown Zones. Remedy has reduced their overall amount and intensity of combat by around 10% to 15%, potentially addressing complaints that some of these areas became overloaded with encounters during exploration.

Several enemies and abilities have also received smaller adjustments. Mini-bosses and heavy enemies now react differently to Push, the Sunder ability lasts slightly longer and the forklift enemy has been made easier to hit.

A number of combat bugs have also been addressed, including problems involving Shield, Gravity Anomalies, Command charges, Artifacts and status effects. The update also fixes an issue that made performing a Perfect Dodge extremely difficult against many attacks during one Resonant boss fight.

PC, PS5 and Xbox Performance Fixes

PC receives several performance optimizations aimed particularly at systems around the minimum and recommended specifications. Remedy has also improved DLSS frame generation behavior, including motion blur scaling and the ability to use V-Sync alongside DLSS Frame Generation. HDR receives fixes for oversaturated highlights and aggressive pixelation, while an issue causing crashes when switching between ray tracing modes has been addressed.

Steam Input controller reconnection has been improved, ultrawide display problems have been fixed and the game now supports Razer haptic peripherals for events such as melee attacks and taking damage.

On PlayStation 5, Remedy has fixed tear-like artifacts appearing in certain videos and corrected several Activities that could trigger or end at the wrong time.

Xbox Series X receives a fix for an issue that could cause audio to cut out during gameplay.

AMD has also released optional graphics drivers that Remedy says improve CONTROL Resonant performance and address several crashes.

Dozens of Quest, Audio and Visual Bugs Fixed

The remainder of Update 1.4.0 covers a collection of smaller fixes across quests, cinematics, audio, animation, lighting and UI. For example, dialogue timing and subtitles have been polished throughout the game, while missing non-English voice-over lines and localization problems have been corrected.

Remedy has also adjusted draw distances, streaming volumes and level-of-detail settings to reduce pop-in, alongside lighting performance improvements across all Zones.

Several quest-blocking issues have been addressed, including problems with Carbon Copy, A New Directive, New Growth and Recursions and Iterations.

There are also fixes for enemies falling through the world, players getting stuck in The Gap, broken collectibles, incorrect Vendor prices and numerous cases where players could escape level boundaries or interrupt story progression.

The Last Word

CONTROL Resonant Update 1.4.0 isn’t built around a major new story expansion, but it addresses many of the smaller issues that become more visible once thousands of players begin exploring a large game. Unlimited New Game++ runs provide the clearest reason to return, while displaying Build Power, improving Vendor information and reducing Unknown Zone combat should make repeated playthroughs smoother.

Combined with PC optimizations, HDR fixes, platform-specific improvements and dozens of quest and UI corrections, the update appears focused on polishing the systems already in place while making long-term progression easier to manage.
