God of War faced an unfortunate incident. Not too long ago, the live-action adaptation of the hit Sony video game franchise entered production. The fans who were not happy seeing the first look of Hurst as Kratos started fantasy casting. After making the community wait a while, the production crew finally has a new protagonist.
New God of War Kratos Officially Announced
Variety has recently learned that Prime Video has officially cast Hollywood star Dave Bautista for the role of Kratos. Bautista has an impressive resume, having played a major role in the MCU as Drax the Destroyer as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy in multiple Marvel-related films and special presentations. Apart from that, Bautista is also a WWE legend who put his pro wrestling life behind him when he started acting full-time.
Considering his past and his overall appearance, Dave Bautista was one of the favored fan picks when casting Kratos for the upcoming Prime Video series. Now that he is taking the mantle, he has big shoes to fill because fans online are sceptical about how the series will do, especially after the divided opinions on The Last of Us HBO series, which, according to some, failed to adopt the original essence of the video game franchise.
Ryan Hurst, who was removed from the role due to injury, had prior experience with the franchise, as he had played Thor in the 2022 video game God of War: Ragnarok. After him, the actor playing Atreus in the live-action series will also be replaced for Season 2 to show the dramatic time jump between the two stories. However, Dave Bautista is expected to continue as Kratos in the sequel season, as the shooting will begin right after wrapping up the first season.
