Ubisoft Co-Founder Claude Guillemot Passes Away In Plane Crash

Varun June 24, 2026

It’s always heartbreaking to report on the passing of an icon, and this time it’s no different.

Claude Guillemot of Ubisoft Passes Away

Claude Guillemot is a name that needs no introduction, having been one among the original founders of Ubisoft and a driving force behind some of our favorite franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, over the years. He led the Guillemot Corporation, overseeing the production and distribution of peripherals for the PC, consoles, and mobile phones, aside from serving with Ubisoft, a company that he worked with his brothers to grow from humble beginnings into the behemoth that it is today.

His passing comes at a time when Ubisoft might have benefited from his experience and leadership, occurring after a Cessna that he was on crashed into a field, killing both him and his pilot. The company has since issued a statement expressing its grief and pledging support to the family and loved ones he has left behind. He was 69 at the time of his passing.

Guillemot’s legacy continues to be an inspiration, having joined his brothers in helping video games become more accessible to gamers across the world in the 90s in response to the adversity his family faced when its logistics business was facing at the time. His impact on modern gaming is undeniable, and we tip our hat to one of the visionaries who helped bring legends to life, even as he became on in his own right.
