How The Hood Changes The Meta in Marvel Rivals Season 9.5

Kaif Ali August 10, 2026

Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 brought a new hero on 7th August UTC: The Hood. Parker Robbins is looking to build a criminal empire and overtake The Kingpin. However, he is not alone. Robbins is backed up by a red cloak powered by a cosmic entity called Oblivion. In different iterations in the Marvel universe, The Hood is powered by Dormammu (comics) or even Mephisto (MCU). In Marvel Rivals Season 9.5, however, Oblivion is the one pulling the strings, and Robbins has no idea. This exceptional red-colored hood comes with cosmic-level powers that shake up the meta quite a bit!

The Hood Adds To The Poke Meta in Marvel Rivals Season 9.5

Till Season 9, Magneto was the better “poke” Vanguard option. However, The Hood’s addition to the playable roster changes things for the overall meta. As another gun-based Vanguard, The Hood may feel a bit similar to Deadpool (Vanguard). However, he is better than the Merc With A Mouth for one big reason: screen shake! The community has been firing at NetEase lately regarding the screen shake in some of the heroes’ kits. The Hood comes with visual stability, though, making him a better pick than “Tankpool”.

The Hood is a hitscan vanguard with infinite range. However, considering his bad damage falloff mechanic, he is supposed to be in the face of his opponents to get the most value out of his kit. Parker Robbins may not be the best solo-tank pick for Marvel Rivals Season 9.5, but he is definitely an “off-tank” that you may not want to miss out on.

Oblivion’s involuntary puppet has a superior TTK (time-to-kill) than most Vanguards on the roster. Making him a monster both in the frontline as a tank-shredder, and in the enemy backline as an executioner. While he does not bring a new meta with him, he adds to the already dominating “poke meta” of the game that many players complain about. Additionally, he enables the enhanced team-up for Jubilee, making her an even stronger Strategist to play in Marvel Rivals Season 9.5.

So, if you are looking to go up against a brawl enemy team comp, add pressure to the enemy backline, or shred enemy flyers, play The Hood.
