Santa Monica Studio has revealed new details about God of War Laufey ahead of the start of pre-orders, scheduled for September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time in each region. In addition to the content included with the different editions, the studio showcased new gameplay footage focused on Faye’s combat style and one of her main weapons, the Serpent Bow.
Editions, Bonus, Gameplay, and More
Anyone who pre-orders any edition before launch will receive the Last Wish Armor Set, a Golden Leaves appearance for Phranque, and an in-game resource pack for use during the campaign. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, and Dark Alchemy Catalyst, as well as another resource pack, a digital mini artbook, and the official soundtrack.
The presentation also revealed new information about how Faye’s bow works. The Serpent Bow is an enchanted weapon capable of quickly shifting its form and was designed to be used both at range and during close-range attack sequences. The idea is to allow players to switch between the sword, bow, and other abilities without interrupting combos.
The bow will have two main modes of use. Fully pressing the aim trigger puts Faye into Full-aim, increasing precision and range. Hitting specific parts of an enemy’s body can limit their movement or ability to attack, while charging a shot allows Faye to stack up to five arrows for a single volley.
The Half-aim mode, meanwhile, prioritizes mobility and close-range combat. In this mode, Faye rapidly fires clusters of arrows and can use them to keep enemies airborne and extend combos. Different arrow types will also be available, including options for rapid fire, explosive detonations, and attacks against multiple targets.
Likewise previous God of War titles, customization will play a direct role in the game. Serpent Scales change both the appearance of the bow and its characteristics, providing specific perks for different playstyles. Faye will also be able to customize her sword through Blades and use Catalysts, magical artifacts found in the Everywhen that provide different effects.
Last Word on God of War Laufey’s Combat
The new details are beginning to establish clearer differences between Faye and the combat style featured in the recent games starring Kratos. The bow is not presented merely as an alternative for ranged attacks, but as an integral part of attack sequences, with two aiming modes, different arrow types, and its own customization options.
Santa Monica Studio is promising to share more information ahead of launch. God of War Laufey will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027, while pre-orders begin this Tuesday, September 29.
