God of War: Laufey caught everyone’s eye at State of Play 2026. One of the most unique parts about the gameplay reveal was the protagonist herself. Despite using the same franchise name, Kratos was no longer the primary means of unfolding the plot. Instead, it was his beloved wife, Laufey the Just. The giantess mother of Loki (Atreus) comes with a new playstyle and a brand new mystical tale to tell. Well, fans should buckle up because her arrival isn’t as far as people might think.
When Is God Of War: Laufey Releasing?
At the San Diego Comic Con, fans finally got an update about the release date of the upcoming God of War game. There was a consensus among fans regarding the release “window”. The community was largely thinking about a 2027 release timeline after Laufey’s standalone project was revealed in June this year, especially considering how we got a full 21-minute non-stop action sequence gameplay footage.
Turns out Sony has not disappointed the speculators when it comes to the release date of their upcoming project. Recently, the gaming industry giant announced that God of War Laufey will hit PS5 consoles across the globe on February 16, 2027
Players will be able to enter The Everywhen, the afterlife of Gods, starting 16th February 2027. Since Sony has announced complete exclusivity for its first-party games starting with Insomniac’s Wolverine releasing in September this year, only PlayStation players will be able to enjoy the upcoming God of War adventure. As announced before, there will also be a disc edition for the game, unlike GTA 6. Moreover, God of War: Laufey is one of the only few first-party games that will release with a disc before Sony ceases disc production for its first-party studio games starting in 2028.
