One of the earlier ways to get more storage is in the basement of The Rookery, which is discovered via a quest. There is a large community chest in there that can hold up to 40 different items in storage for you.
You can then also buy chests from Whittaker with the choice being between Small Cupboard and Small Chest, each with their own distinct capacities. As the game progresses and you level up Whittaker’s store there will be even more furniture options made available.
Now, to place down furniture to store items you will need to have a house. To do that you’ll have to beat Falstead Darak and return to Sacrament with enough currency to buy a home. You can get either a Manor, a Roost, or a Homestead depending on price.
