This Death Must Die characters guide will run down the details of every single playable character in the bullet hell-styled game. The action roguelike is still in early development over on Steam but has become a hit with fans already. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the in-game characters and what sets them apart.

Death Must Die Characters

Avoron

Avoron can equip Heavy Armour but can only use swords as weapons. He’s a slower unit reliant on melee combat.

Boons

  • Deadly Strike – Attacks become stronger, resolve cursed status immediately
  • Vengeful Strike – Attacks become stronger and inflict burning
  • Rampaging Strike – Attacks become stronger and knockback enemies
  • Chilling Strike – Attacks shoot projectiles that cause chilled
  • Warped Strike -Attacks become stronger, enemies you hit shoot projectiles behind them
  • Wrathful Strike – Your attacks become stronger and can trigger another attack
  • Merciful Strike – Attacks become stronger and apply weakened

Hero Signs

Heroes can have exclusive signs which provide them with passive skills. For Avoron these are:

  • The Sign of The Hero – Gain 17% attack damage for every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Killing 500 skeletons with Avoron
  • The Sign of The Guardian – Become invulnerable for one second after taking damage
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Baron with Avoron
  • The Sign of the Chosen One – Become invulnerable for three seconds after taking damage
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Gargoyles with Avoron
  • The Sign of the Disciple – All blessings offered are at least Adept rarity
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Baron with each character
  • The Sign of The Cat – You gain +2 revivals
    • Unlock By: A Cat dies 9 times

Merris

Merris is a sorceress who can equip light armour and can only utilize staff weapons. Unlike Avoron, Merris is more agile and requires range to attack.

Hero Signs

Heroes can have exclusive signs which provide them with passive skills. For Merris these are:

  • The Sign of Fire – Gain 8% spell damage every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Deal 100,000 damage with Merris
  • The Sign of The Helper – Your missiles aim towards enemies, +66% attack damage
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Chatty Skeleton 33 times with Merris
  • The sign of Timespace – You have infinite pull range, -1 Dash and -30% dash cooldowns
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Necromancer with Merris
  • The Sign of the Hydra – You gain +2 spell projectile count
    • Unlock By: Get 8 different autocast blessings with Merris
  • The sign of The Summoner – Gain 22% summon damage every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Get 40 summons with Merris

Nixi

Nixi is an assassin who can equip light armour and can only use knife-type weapons. Similar to Merris, this is a lighter unit but one that focuses on close combat as opposed to ranged offence.

Hero Signs

Heroes can have exclusive signs which provide them with passive skills. For Nixi these are:

  • The sign of The Viper – Gain 10% attack speed for every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Defeat the Gargoyles in under 20 seconds with Nixi
  • The sign of The Thread – Deal 500% more damage striking enemies below 20% HP
    • Unlock By: Deal a total of 2000 critical damage with Nixi
  • The Sign of The Grasshopper – Gain +1 dash, +25% dash cooldowns
    • Unlock By: Get 4 dashes with Nixi
  • The sign of The Thief – Pick-ups drop 1000% more often
    • Unlock By: Win an attempt at 3 difficulty with Nixi
  • The sign of The Rabbit – You gain 13% luck every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Win an attempt with Mort’s Serendipity blessing with Nixi

Kront

Kront is a barbarian class enemy with the ability to equip heavy armour and can only utilise Axe weapons. This is another slower unit with close-range expertise but uses AOE attacks to kill enemies.

Hero Signs

Heroes can have exclusive signs which provide them with passive skills. For Kront these are:

  • The sign of the Tornado – Gain 14% attack area every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Kill 25 enemies with a single strike as Kront
  • The sign of the Earthquake – Enemy stun threshold reduced by 100%, Deal +40% damage to enemies below their stun threshold
    • Unlock By: Destroy an elite enemy’s barrier with a single strike from Kront
  • The sign of The Tsunami – Gain 4% attack critical chance every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Deal a critical hit of 400 damage with Kront
  • The sign of The Meteor – Gain 1.2% attack damage for every 1 armor point
    • Unlock By: Defeat 50 shielders with Kront
  • The sign of The Mountain – Can’t regenerate life, +222 life
    • Unlock By: Defeat Necromancer with Kront

Skadi

Skadi is a warrior class hero who can equip medium armour and uses a Greatsword weapon. This is a midpoint between the previous 4 entries as greatsword’s are slower but quick enough to dole out damage

Hero Signs

Heroes can have exclusive signs which provide them with passive skills. For Skadi these are:

  • The sign of the Wyvern – Gain +16 movement speed every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Traverse 30,000 distance with Skadi
  • The sign of The Apprentice – Random skill gains +1 level for every 2 levels you gain
    • Unlock By: Reach level 30 with Skadi
  • The sign of the Cosmos – Attacks apply a random status from a pool of 8 statutes.
    • Unlock By: Apply 5 different statuses in an attempt with Skadi
  • The sign of the Beast – White raven fights alongside you
    • Unlock By: Kill 25 summoners
  • The sign of the Lizard – Gain 0.35 life regen every 3 levels
    • Unlock By: Heal 999 life with Skadi
