Best Young Defensive Midfielders in FM23 Winter Update

Manuel Ugarte

The 21-year-old Sporting CP man is a ball-winner in every sense of the word. He’s got a fantastic engine that allows him to cover large areas of the field with an unbelievable 18 out of 20 rating in the tackling department. He can adequately move the ball forward but will benefit most as a defensive stopper.

Danilo

Before his rather surprising move to Nottingham Forest this Brazilian 21-year-old was fielding interest from major teams like Arsenal. He has widely been regarded as a top defensive midfielder for some time and now has Premier League experience to boot. He is more of a deep-sitting playmaker/all-rounder than a defensive phenom but he can handle himself on the defensive end quite well.

Nicolas Seiwald

Another solid engine to add to your midfield Seiwald is a determined tackler with a high stamina stat who can be a pest to the opposition. His other skills will need time to fully develop but he can do the job for you right from the get-go if supported by a more playmaking-oriented DM.

Manu Kone

Another 21-year-old, another addition to our list of the best defensive midfielders to sign. The Borussia Monchengladbach player is a ball-winner with strength and tackling ability who can also dribble and bring the ball forward. Kone might just be the most useful player on our list with all of the areas he excels in.

Samuel Ricci

The Italian midfielder is more of a natural central midfielder but can step back into the DM spot to move the ball forward with his strong passing ability. He has the stamina required to be a real engine in the midfield even if his tackling skills need some work.
