Clouds of anxiety hover over the Pokemon GO community as players across the world report that their accounts have been banned permanently.
Not the 1st or 2nd traditional bans, Scopely directly perma-banned many players’ accounts overnight. Players across the world have taken to social media to share the reports with the community.
This is the biggest ban wave Pokemon GO has ever seen. As the Halloween event is live in the game right now, many players are enjoying the special spawns and the brand-new trick-or-treat boxes (Halloween surprises) that reward rare candies and special spawns.
Players were seen exploiting the mechanics of these boxes to farm a lot of rare candies. What seemed harmless at the time led to many people getting the green screen upon opening the game the next day.
In the first few hours of the major ban rollout, a total of 130 cases were reported. However, as time went on, the number surged drastically. Beyond just spoofers, Scopely targeted everyone guilty.

Did Pokemon GO Remove the Rare Candies Halloween Surprises Box?
Before the permanent ban wave was rolled out, Scopely initially stopped rewarding players with rare candies through the Halloween surprise boxes.
However, the feature in the game resumed rewarding players with these valuable in-game rewards after the ban wave went live.
As we are in part 2 of the Halloween event, you can carry on enjoying the spooky festivities with brand new special spawns and the trick-or-treats of Halloween boxes.
There’s always a chance that someone who plays the game legitimately could be banned in Pokemon GO by mistake. If you are one of them, you can submit a ban appeal and get your account back. Alternatively, you can reach out to Scopely through social media platforms like X.
Last Word on Scopely Rolling Out the Biggest Ban Wave in Pokemon GO
Some banned players have played the game since the beginning in 2016. If Scopely doesn’t turn the perma ban around, they will lose 10 years of progress in the game.
That being said, a punishment for exploiting in-game features to get ahead is indeed the right decision. However, the severity of it might be too much.
It will be interesting to see Scopely’s official statement on this, given that a lot of players who were affected have asked the company to revoke the bans.
