The God of War franchise appears in full swing. While Santa Monica is busy developing God of War Laufey, which already has an official release date, Amazon Prime is producing a live-action version of the Norse saga following the courageous father-son journey throughout the nine realms. Despite still being in its shooting phase, the show has met its fair share of stoppages; first, there were criticisms regarding the cast, and now, the recasting. The disaster started with Kratos, and now it looks like fans will be getting a brand new Atreus as well.
Atreus Recast In God of War Show Is Different From Kratos
Ryan Hurst, who voiced Thor in the 2022 game God of War: Ragnarok, was originally cast as the Spartan in the upcoming Amazon Prime show. However, he suffered an on-set injury, jeopardizing the role. While these projects rarely resort to recasting, fans will now be seeing a new Kratos altogether. Although there are no confirmations yet, reports pointed to former WWE star Dave Bautista joining the crew as the Greek God of War. As for Atreus, it’s a whole other story.
MP1st report suggested that Atreus and Thrud will be recast for the second season of the show. Previous reports pointed to the fact that both seasons, following the story of the 2018 and 2022 games, respectively, will be shot one after the other. This wouldn’t coincide with the story progression, as Atreus enters his mid-teens in the second game. So, it’s reported that the casting process for Atreus and Thrud for season 2 is now aiming for actors aged 14-17, as opposed to the previous casting call where actors aged 9-12 were invited.
Since there are no reports about Callum Vinson being replaced in season one, it’s likely that he will remain the “boy” that the community met in the 2018 game until the second season comes along.
