Far Cry 3 gave us one of the most iconic video game villains: Vaas. Played by Hollywood star Michael Mando in the 2012 first-person open-world action-adventure game from Ubisoft, Mando didn’t show up in any other major video game franchise after that. He did make a return to the scene when the innovative Far Cry 6 DLC dropped, exploring the psyche of three iconic villains from the franchise in the Vaas: Insanity (2021) DLC. Now, he is eyeing an opportunity to return to video games.
Far Cry 3 Villain Is Looking To Offer More to “Vaas” Fans
Michael Mando became an international star when he was featured in Far Cry 3. His impeccable performance in the franchise hit, especially the “insanity” monologue, made fans acknowledge his talent. Mando knows the gravity of this one gaming industry role and discussed it in a recent interview with IGN.
People remember me from Vaas, as much as anything I have ever done. It’s the beginning of my international career, to all the Vaas fans out there. They always ask me are you Vaas? Yes. I am Vaas, and I’ll always be Vaas. And I love it.
Voice acting in video games is often the path it takes to turn a non-gamer into one of the members of the community. When asked about his status as a gamer, Mando replied negatively, but gave a glimmer of hope to his fans who have been wanting him to return since his Far Cry 3 days.
I’m not a gamer. I want to act in games. I think my team and I are looking for the next, you know, we are looking for a nice big role that we can get our hands on. Something hopefully with motion capture. To go and, you know, answer the Vaas. Maybe play a hero on the other side of things.
Michael Mando recently reprised his role in the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise as Mac Gargan, aka the Scorpion, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He was teased in the role all the way back in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It’s safe to say that his role in the 2026 film, although short, leaves an impact on the overall storytelling of the scene. Hopefully, his return to video games will be sooner rather than later.
