In what we can only call an unexpected turn of events,Ā Monster Hunter WorldĀ has sold over 30 million copies to become Capcom’s best-selling title, outperforming even this year’s excellent offerings from the studio, such as Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem.

Monster Hunter World Surpasses Major Sales Milestone
A Last-Gen Wonder
But wait, we hear you say. Did we meanĀ Wilds? You might think that’s the case, but the successor to World has managed around 11 million copies as of January this year, and although Ascendance could push those numbers up a little, it’s still not close to what the 2018 title has managed. The fact that 8 million of copies were sold within three days of its release is an indicator of how the game’s performance issues have stalled its momentum since its release, despite Capcom’s best efforts to remedy the situation.
Of course, we’re aware of the fact that the release ofĀ Monster Hunter World: Iceborne EditionĀ helped bump its sales up by quite a margin, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Capcom’s pilot effort to bring the game to a wider global audience has paid dividends across its supply chain. For our part, we remember it as a fun experience that did justice to what the Monster HunterĀ franchise was all about, while managing to be welcoming to new players who might not have had the joy of experiencing it before.

Wilds was no slouch either, although we do agree with the chatter about its easier campaign and a lack of enough content to keep players invested long after they rolled the credits on it. However, Capcom did well to address that part of things, but didn’t fully manage to recover from complaints about the game’s performance. It’s still a solid addition to the franchise in our eyes, though, and it’s been the source of many fond memories.
Here’s to hoping thatĀ Ascendance manages to getĀ Wilds’ players coming back to it, and perhaps bringing a few friends along to help it climb the ranks of Capcom’s ever-growing list of best-sellers.
