Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is one of those games that was seemingly announced and forgotten because of a lack of further updates. The game was set in the 1940s, during the Second World War, revolving around Captain America and Black Panther. Since the game takes place during Cap’s original timeline, the Black Panther featured in the game would be King T’Challa’s grandfather. As the name suggests, the two heroes will share a common foe: the rising Hydra faction, but both of them also appear to be at odds on how they wish to proceed with the story. Now, we finally have Skydance Media’s update on the game presumed dead. Turns out, it’s happening!
Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra Is Alive and Breathing
Paramount Game Studio was finally set up after the Paramount-Skydance merger. Although this seemed like overall good news, some fans were worried that changes in the workplace might get Marvel 1943 canceled altogether. The senior vice president, head of creative and production at Paramount Games, Shawn Kittelsen, assures Marvel fans in an IGN interview that the game is coming along despite the delays.
“It’s a game. It’s happening. It’s playable. I’ve got my SpongeBob controller here, but it’s on my hard drive right now. So I can go through and play the build. We’re continuing development on it, but Amy and the team have big ambitions for the level of quality that they want to hit. They are a relatively small team considering the AAA quality that they’re delivering. What you’ve seen in previous footage is what the game looks like, and we’re making it with a fraction of the resources that you see in other AAA games of the same type, and really trying to push a new development model that’s a lot more responsible and sustainable.”
Shawn says that Paramount Games didn’t want to put exceptional pressure on the team because they wished to maintain the team while developing the game. Moreover, the quality of the game is more important than a tentative deadline. Amy Hennig, an industry legend who has previously worked on the Uncharted games, is helming the project, and Shawn believes in her and the entire team to pull off this project. He confirms in the same interview that the game may not be coming out until 2027 at the earliest.

Gamers have only seen a story trailer of the game, which dropped in 2024. The first announcement goes as far back as 2021. There has been one gameplay leak in the past, which showed combat in its early stages. Some fans were critical of it, while others liked it. If the team is targeting a 2027 release window, we should get more official information, trailers, and gameplay footage later this year or in the first half of next year.
