Pale Coins Review for PC/Steam Deck

Gameplay

The game is a top-down look as you make your way from one part of the map to the other, each new zone reloads any enemies and spawns as you progress through. The map isn’t huge which makes it easier to travel around for quests.

There is depth as caves have different floors which adds to the exploration aspect as you battle your way through. The battling system is fine, it’s a more conservative approach as attacking widlly will completely leave you prone to get rocked and killed, meaning your approach and weapon choice gain a bit more importance.

There are boss fights which will put your skills and preparations to the limit as you’ll likely have to learn to dodge and read attack patterns to make the most of any openings offered to you.

Graphics

There is an old-school approach to the graphics which I am always a fan of. It looks intentionally rough around the edges but everything still looks smooth and there’s an array of colours used that make each space look different. The green and brown patchy grass looks so different to the city with it’s smoother gray concrete.

Character models are drawn and look full of character. Each person you talk to is defined and will carry the weight of the wartorn areas you occupy.

Pale Coins Review – Last Word on Gaming Viewpoint

This is a solid Action RPG with enough depth and quests to keep you occupied. Making your way through the game and levelling up a build is pretty important as there’s different combat approaches, each with their own pros and cons. There’s enough story to thread the game together and always keeps you focused with something to do.
