Phantom Breaker: Omnia Preview

Published on:

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a slightly confusing update of Phantom Breaker: Extra, which in itself was an update of the original XBox 360 game Phantom Breaker (which also had an arcade update – Phantom Breaker: Another Code). Still with me? Well, this latest version is coming to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, later this month.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia Details

The Original

The original game was only released in Japan, garnering average reviews. The major complaints were with its simplicity and slow speed. ‘Extra’ seems to have learned from the original’s mistakes and put controls in place that sped up the game and added extra modes. Becoming a little more complex, and therefore, more interesting to play.

For the First Time in the English Language

One of the most important extras, especially when it comes to popularity outside of Japan, is that all of Omnia’s characters will now have English voice acting. On top of that, the game’s text will be also translated into English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified, and Traditional Chinese. This will mean that for the first time, English language gamers will be able to easily follow the story. And those stories, that include the original game and the ones from ‘Extra’, differ for each character. Making this an important part in the replayability of the game for new players.

New Characters

The game now features 20 characters, all the characters from Extra plus two all new ones created for this game – Artifactor and Maestra.

Maestra is all about speed and uses a sword for her attack, fighting for her mistress Mikoto. Whereas Artifactor is a ‘cosmic architect from a god-like race of beings known as Reverants’. She is the only Reverant left known in existence and uses a more technical ability with her fighting.

Remixed

Keeping with thoughts on the original games, the soundtrack has been updated. Including background music for each character being ‘redone and remixed’. But still giving the option to play the original music too.

New Fighting System

One of the key new elements of Phantom Breaker: Omnia is how the fighting action itself has been ‘retuned and rebalanced’. This means that the ability to pull off amazing combos and special attacks has never been easier with the overhauled fighting system. Newcomers to 2D fighting games will be happy to see this.

With its host of extras, language options and new fighting system Phantom Breaker: Omnia will no doubt be the best version of this game to play for many people all around the World
