FM26 New Player Roles Guide

Published on:

This FM26 New Player roles guide will discuss the latest feature announced for the game. Alongside a big tactcial overhaul, there are now even more player roles to pick from when setting up your squad. With a game this technical we’ll have to look at what they are and what they could do. You can get FM26 on Steam, it is available for pre-purchase and should have a beta access period soon.

FM26 New Player Roles Walkthrough

  • No-Nonsense Goalkeeper
  • Ball-Playing Goalkeeper
  • Overlapping Centre-Back
  • Playmaking Wing-Back
  • Advanced Wing-Back
  • Midfield Playmaker
  • Wide Central Midfielder
  • Wide Forward
  • Channel Forward

While one or two of these appear to be renames of older roles there are some interesting new ones. The specific shift for goalkeepers follows the growing trend of teams using the goalkeeper as an extra outfield body for passing around a press.

Overlapping centre-back may seem like an insane thing in theory but it is a role used by major teams a lot now with one CB given license to carry the ball out of defense to try and unsettle a press. This spot should be given to CBs with good on-ball ability and enough speed to recover if possession turns over.

The others will have to be seen in action. A channel forward seems designed for a multi-attacker system to get a striker stretching the field but feels simlar to roles assigned in previous games.
