Despite the monumental troll from executive producer, Jun Takeuchi, Capcom indeed revealed the next mainline game in the Resident Evil Franchise during Summer Game Fest 2025. Geoff Keighley saved the best till last with the reveal of Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) showing a trailer introducing new characters and a nostalgic look at a destroyed Raccoon City.

Keighley mentioned during the reveal that Requiem will “mark a bold shift for the franchise, in both tone and gameplay”. He continues with detailing that the game will feature survival horror elements and exciting action set pieces.
Surprisingly, Capcom generously dropped Requiem’s release date for February 27th, 2026. Fans of the franchise had been diligently waiting for the next installment following 2021’s blockbuster Resident Evil Village. With such a lengthy wait between releases, fans have high expectations heading into the reveal season.
New Faces
Resident Evil Requiem looks to take a new perspective to the series introducing a new character; Grace Ashcroft. The trailer leads us to believe that Grace will be our new protagonist that we’ll be following throughout the game. She’s a young naive FBI technical analyst that is given a task to follow up on unusual deaths.

Grace is given the task to investigate the Wrenwood Hotel to gather intel on the string of deaths involving a strange disease. It’s further revealed that her mother; Alyssa Ashcroft, was murdered at this very location. Alyssa was previously appeared in the Resident Evil Outbreak (2003) game on the PlayStation 2. What kind of mysterious will unravel as we learn more of the Ashcroft family throughout Requiem?
There is not much information to discuss in regards to the main antagonist of Requiem. The trailer drops hints as to who the main adversary may be.
With the sheer level of craziness Capcom pumps into the Resident Evil franchise, you can take your pick as to what mind-bending games he has for us when we return to Raccoon City or the Wrenwood Hotel.
Raccoon City Is Back
Requiem’s trailer gave us a glimpse as to locations we’ll be exploring. Most notably was the reveal of Raccoon Police Department, which long time fans of the series would immediately recognize.

Raccoon City is in an destroyed state due to the nuclear explosion set throughout the events of the second (and third) game in the series. With the extent of the destruction, surely nothing can survive, right?
More Info Soon
Briefly mentioned at Summer Game Fest 2025, Requiem will be playable at Gamescom Germany starting August 20th. We should expect to see a new look at the game throughout the event.
Additionally, 2025 marks Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary, with previous games in the titles going on sale throughout the Summer. Capcom haven’t revealed anything yet, but there’s a good chance that an event or livestream to share more information on Requiem could come later this year.
