Age of Ultron Wreaks Havoc in Marvel Rivals Season 9: Release Date, Map, Heroes, and Abilities

Some would say Age of Ultron began way before Marvel Rivals Season 9, when the maniacal sentient machine became a playable hero back in Season 2.5. However, others would argue that his age ended as soon as it began because Ultron relied on triple support compositions and constant nerfs despite his obvious weaknesses. But now, the devs have turned him into a menace again in the upcoming Path to Doomsday event: Age of Ultron.

Path To Doomsday: Age Of Ultron in Marvel Rivals Season 9

Release Date

The second Path to Doomsday event will release on July 30, 2026 UTC across specific platforms. This includes PC and new-generation consoles, meaning players on older generations like PS4 and Xbox One won’t get this new update anytime soon. Moreover, it will be a PvE game mode, like Blood Hunt and the Zombies PvE before that. This is after the community feedback of how the first Avengers PvP game mode felt unfair when a player was playing as Loki.

Map

After turning the game mode PvE instead of PvP, the next feedback that the devs have taken into account appears to be the map. During the first Path to Doomsday event, we saw the game mode taking place on existing Domination map rotations. However, after the community feedback, NetEase Games has taken things up a notch, taking the battle straight to the Avengers Tower as partly featured in the Blood Hunt PvE mode and the Midtown Convoy map.

Heroes

Back when the Avengers 2012 game mode dropped, there were two variations. Players could either choose to assemble the original six Avengers from the movie, or instead play any hero they want in their quest to defeat the God of Mischief. In the trailer, we can see that the developers have revealed gameplay for the following five heroes: Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, and Scarlet Witch. This means that Hawkeye and Thor are missing from the OG lineup of Avengers. Considering that the Norse God of Thunder was in the previous two PvE modes, the team probably wanted to give him a break so the new mode doesn’t feel stale at launch.

Abilities

Additionally, this new mode may not allow a second variation where players can play as whichever roster hero they want because the heroes showcased in the trailer seem to have upgraded abilities like other PvE modes before Age of Ultron in Marvel Rivals Season 9.

So, it will likely feature a new set of abilities or upgraded versions of existing hero kits to tackle the Ultron army in style. As for Ultron himself, he shows up in his iconic MCU look and sends his drones to do his dirty work. As per the official description, the cinematics will guide the overarching story.
