Nintendo Changes Voice Actor For Princess Peach After 18 Years

Published on:

After 18 years voicing the iconic Princess of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, Samantha Kelly has been replaced.

Kelly reportedly found out that she would no longer voice Princess Peach, along with Baby Peach, Toad, and Toadette, following the launch of the Switch 2 after not being included in the release of the new game, Mario Kart World.

Social Media Response

Kelly went to Instagram to express her feelings on the matter, commenting, “Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy. I’m sad that it’s over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles. I’m grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love #princesspeach #toad”.

Fans showed their support for Kelly with bittersweet messages. Instagram user @trulyprincessdaisy, commented on Kelly’s post, “Thank you so much for the memories and for being the voice of one of our favorite princesses, Peach, you will always be in our hearts 💖”

Fans expressed their disappointment with Nintendo’s decision, referring back to other actors who have been replaced. Recently being the Donkey Kong voice actor, Takashi Nagasaki. Fans discovered the replacement after his name did not appear in the Mario Kart World credits. The credited voice actor being, Koji Takeda. Along with suspicions about the truth to Charles Martinet’s—voice of Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Walugi—retirement in 2023. Commenters on social media refer to these replacements as “scummy practices” by Nintendo.
