What We Learned From AEW’s Latest Video Game Footage

On the latest episode of the AEW Games 2.show we got a glimpse at the gameplay for the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) console game which is still in development.  This footage came as part of the character reveal for Darby Allin, one of the most unique and captivating performers on the AEW roster.  Despite only offering a brief glimpse at the game here is what we learned from this latest footage.

The Art Style Is Fantastic

When the AEW console game was first released we got a brief glimpse at what the intended art style would be.  During this reveal, we got a great feel for how each character model will look and it is exactly what we asked for.  While Darby Allin looked realistic and had all of his defining features he still comes off as larger than life.  They’ve struck the right balance between looking realistic and not falling into the trap of making the models try to look too lifelike.  If they can keep this up for the entire roster then the AEW console game will be one of the best-looking wrestling games in recent memory.

Camera Effects

One of the most under-the-radar aspects of a wrestling game is how the camera plays into the action.  As shown in the brief trailer above the camera zoomed in to show the full impact of key moves performed by Allin and even better it shook with force when he delivered a major blow to the opponent.  This is reminiscent of WWE games of old which would replay your finisher from different angles, fully showcasing its devastating impact.  If this camera work is something that AEW can integrate into the full game it will be yet another nice addition to the gameplay

Fluid Movements

Another thing that we asked for from this game was to embrace the fun.  WWE games and even competitors like Fire Pro Wrestling can often feel like slower-paced strategic games with your character’s movements being slowed down to have a more realistic feel to the match.  Based on the gameplay we saw from AEW that isn’t going to be a problem here, Darby Allin’s movements were fluid in a way that is both controlled and fast enough to keep the match moving.

While I’m not usually one to hyper analyze a video game trailer I was excited after seeing what was showcased for the AEW console game.  From major stuff like character models to small things like character movement they seem to have got everything right so far.  If they can keep on this road then this game will be one that wrestling fans everywhere will love.
