Gran Turismo 7 Delayed Until 2022

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Gran Turismo 7 is delayed until 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. CEO Jim Ryan, in an interview with GQ Magazine UK, discussed how Gran Turismo 7‘s production has been slowed, but more details will be released later. Sony announced Gran Turismo 7 at its Playstation Reveal Event on June 11, 2020.

The Gran Turismo franchise creates simulated racing experiences using various automobiles. The racing franchise is one of Sony’s most popular; subsequently, selling over 80 million copies for the Playstation brand. The first Gran Turismo released in 1997 for the original Playstation. Gran Turismo 7 is the eighth game in the series.

Some Gran Turismo 7 Features

There are new features included within Gran Turismo 7 to make use of the PS5’s upgraded power, high online speed, and high definition rendered graphics allow players to smoothly interact with fellow racers in a realistic environment. Players can feel the cars in motion through vibrations and sensitivity variations. The game also implements a Dream Garage that allows players to collect cars and design them as they see fit. Online play; however, requires a Playstation Plus membership. Also, consequently, a 4K and HDR tv are required for those specific features.

Polyphony Digital Studio CEO Kazunori Yamauchi stated in an interview with Gtplanet that Gran Turismo 7 takes elements of the first four games, in a return to its roots. Classic Gran Turismo fans will notice older elements reappear in the new addition to the franchise.
