The final major content update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced arrived on October 27, giving players one last substantial reason to return to Edward Kenway’s adventure. Two days later, Ubisoft published its Fall 2026 franchise update, shifting attention away from the Caribbean and toward what comes next for Assassin’s Creed.
The publisher has confirmed that no other remakes are currently in development, while its teams are already working on new settings, stories and projects that haven’t been announced. The update also provides fresh information on Codename Hexe and Codename Invictus, as well as a look at the leadership structure now responsible for shaping the franchise.
Ubisoft’s Studio Shake-Up Gives Assassin’s Creed a New Leadership Team
The future of Assassin’s Creed is being shaped alongside a substantial reorganization of Ubisoft itself. In January 2026, the publisher announced a new operating model built around five specialized Creative Houses, each with responsibility for its own games, publishing, brand strategy and financial performance.
Vantage Studios announced a dedicated Assassin’s Creed leadership team in February. Martin Schelling became Head of Assassin’s Creed Brand, responsible for its overall strategy and long-term vision. Jean Guesdon took the Head of Content position, while François de Billy was appointed Head of Production Excellence.
All three bring substantial experience with the series. Schelling has worked on Revelations, Black Flag, Origins and Valhalla, while Guesdon was Creative Director on both Black Flag and Origins. De Billy previously served as Production Director on Origins and Valhalla.
Ubisoft’s October update confirms that the leadership team has spent the past several months developing its long-term vision, although it isn’t ready to reveal specific plans. The principles guiding its work include “Staying true to what makes Assassin’s Creed unique, continuing to innovate, delivering diverse experiences.”
The company also shared feedback from thousands of players who participated in its March community survey. Three priorities emerged: preserving the series’ identity and defining gameplay pillars, creating a more coherent narrative that respects its established lore, and maintaining more regular communication with the community.
Black Flag Resynced’s Final Update Closes One Chapter, Not the Remake Door
The timing of Ubisoft’s update is notable, arriving just after the final major content release for Black Flag Resynced. Title Update 1.0.8 launched on October 27, adding New Game+, Nightmare Mode, new rewards, additional takedown animations and further customization options.
New Game+ allows players to retain much of their previous progression, including Edward’s equipment, weapons, trinkets and upgrades for the Jackdaw. Subsequent playthroughs can become progressively more difficult, with tougher enemies and more dangerous ships appearing across the Caribbean.
Nightmare Mode offers a separate challenge, reducing the window for parrying, increasing enemy damage and making stealth more demanding. The update also brings back takedown animations from the original game and includes new outfits, pet cosmetics and rewards such as Blackbeard’s iconic clothing.
More importantly for the future of the series, Ubisoft stated that “we currently have no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development.” That rules out an immediate follow-up to Black Flag Resynced, despite continued interest from fans in revisiting earlier entries.
The publisher hasn’t completely abandoned the idea, however. It says it will continue exploring opportunities to bring older titles back, while its development teams concentrate on the next chapter of Assassin’s Creed, including projects with new settings and stories.
We previously examined why Black Flag Resynced could be an important release for Ubisoft, and the publisher’s latest comments suggest the experience has provided useful lessons for any future remake decisions. We also looked at the remake’s PS5 Pro enhancements, which offer another perspective on how Ubisoft is updating its older games for modern hardware. For now, though, players shouldn’t assume that another classic entry is already being rebuilt behind the scenes.
Hexe, Invictus and 2027 Will Shape the Next Era
With no other remakes currently in production, attention turns to the two named projects Ubisoft discussed in its latest update. Codename Hexe remains in development as a darker Assassin’s Creed experience. Ubisoft says work is progressing, but there is still more to do before it is ready to show the game in detail. Its next major update is now scheduled for 2027, meaning fans will have to wait longer for a proper look at this entry.
Codename Invictus, meanwhile, is Ubisoft’s upcoming multiplayer project. Hundreds of players have already participated in a private testing session, getting hands-on with an early prototype and providing feedback to the development team.
The response to the return of PvP multiplayer was positive, with testers highlighting the verticality of the maps, parkour, dynamic team play and the opportunity to use different Assassin’s Creed characters. However, Ubisoft also acknowledged that players wanted to see more of the franchise’s defining features incorporated into the experience.
Beyond these two projects, the publisher says other games are in development, including titles that haven’t yet been announced. It hasn’t provided release windows or further details about their settings, leaving plenty of room for speculation without confirming which historical periods or characters might feature. Our coverage of the cancelled Assassin’s Creed Destiny project, which was reportedly set in ancient China, offers another glimpse at the different directions Ubisoft has explored for the franchise.
One significant date is already on the calendar, though. Assassin’s Creed turns 20 in 2027, and Ubisoft is preparing a year of reveals, updates, rewards and community events to mark the anniversary. The publisher hasn’t outlined its schedule, but the milestone could provide a natural opportunity to show more of what the new leadership team has been working toward.
The Last Word
Ubisoft’s Fall 2026 update offers more direction than concrete announcements. The company has established a new leadership structure, clarified that another remake isn’t currently in development and provided progress reports on Hexe and Invictus. Its broader plans remain deliberately vague, with the next major opportunity to reveal more coming during the franchise’s 20th anniversary in 2027.
Black Flag Resynced shows that Ubisoft is willing to revisit its history, but the immediate priority appears to be building new experiences. Whether that means a return to the series’ older stealth-focused identity or another evolution of its open-world formula remains to be seen.
