What To Expect From Marvel Rivals Season 8.5
New Hero, New Mode, New Team-up and New Maps
Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, finally joins the Marvel Rivals hero roster in Season 8.5 as a Duelist. He is finally being added as a playable hero in the game after his first visual appearance in the Season 5 trailer at Rogue and Gambit’s wedding in Krakoa. A new combat map will be added for the new 18v18 Bounty Annihilation mode: K’un-Lun: Shenloong Arena. After Season 4, the tournament is finally taking place, under its own dedicated game mode, coming to the game on June 12th, alongside Cyclops.
Additionally, fans can expect a new social-hub called the Hellfire Bay-Beach. The term “social hub” feels similar to the already established Times Square map in the game. Lastly, Wolverine is leaving his Primal Flame team-up with Phoenix to join the Blast Slash team-up with Cyclops, with the latter being the team anchor. Marvel Rivals players will see Cyclops charging Wolverine’s claws with kinetic energy, gaining more primary attack range for a set duration. When activated, Wolverine’s Vicious Rampage ability will also be replaced by a new ability called the Kinetic Claws, allowing him to spin and slash while moving forward!
Cyclops Brings Back Summer Event With a Twist in Marvel Rivals Season 8.5
June 18, almost a week after the Season 8.5 release, marks the beginning of the summer festival in Marvel Rivals. There will be rewards waiting for all players with up to 2500 Units waiting to be claimed by completing simple missions like daily logins. We saw the developers being this generous during the Anniversary Event to celebrate one year of completing Marvel Rivals.
The Dev Vision Vol. 18 gives us a glimpse into summer special costumes for the following heroes:

Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 Welcomes Back Limited Time Skins
Vault 616 returns yet again with limited-time store skins. The costumes will be picked from July and September 2025, including Swimsuit Special Costumes, Summer Special Costumes, and more. So, if you hadn’t already gotten your hands on those skins last year, now will be your time!
Path To Doomsday Pushed Far Ahead
Despite working hard on the Avengers-collaboration events, Marvel Rivals has had to push back. Previously, the plan was to have a new Avengers-related event ever mid-season. Now, after careful consideration and player-feedback, Guangguang has announced that the Avengers Age of Ultron event will take place late-July while the Avengers Infinity War event will happen in mid-October.

This will leave only two months till the Avengers Doomsday release, and two more Avengers titles to cover, including Doomsday itself. We will have to wait and see how these new timeline changes update the gameplay of the upcoming game modes after criticisms regarding the “battle of New York” game mode.
