FragPunk Steam Deck Guide

Published on:

This FragPunk Steam Deck guide will detail how the game performs on the portable console and how to maximise the output. Deck optimisation differs from title to title so it’s important to know what settings to use or what limitations to expect before trying to take a game on the go with you. FragPunk is the latest FPS that is free-to-play which has gained a following, it has been reviewed well on Steam by the overwhelming majority of players.

FragPunk Steam Deck Performance Analysis

FragPunk runs surprisingly well on the Steam Deck. First Person Shooters are often some of the hardest to run on the console, especially competitive online shooters like FragPunk. Despite that, it largely plays well and will keep a consistent frame rate with only occasional drops. This means you can make it through a game for the most part without worrying about the visuals leading to an unfair death.

This does come at the cost of the graphical output. This consistent frame rate requires the game being played at the lowest visual settings which means it can look pretty rough and dull compared to the full PC experience, that said it is worth it to play with a consistent frame rate.

There are no reports of the game crashing once its active. This can be a pretty big issue on Steam Deck ports with games overwhelming the console but FragPunk will play the entire time barring any mishaps, which already puts it a step above some other titles.

The title has full controller support regardless so is perfectly mapped to the Deck’s joypad layout, which is another instant benefit.

If you are having issues launching the game, as some have, there is an easy enough solution. While this can seem annoying at first, and usually means the game won’t work on the Deck at all, FragPunk has a fix. You should be able to get it working by launching the game in desktop mode just once, this will add the anti-cheating stuff that the developers require and from there on out, the game should launch normally without having to use Desktop mode.

To round up, FragPunk isn’t a perfect Steam Dek game but it is easy to fix. By using lower settings and launching in desktop mode you should be able to navigate any issues that the game presents.
