This Over The Top WW1 classes guide will dive into the unit classes in this 3D action title. I will be explaining what makes each one stand out and where they could have some weaknesses. Over The Top WW1 Classes Guide
Rifleman
This is the base class of low-level, all-around units who can be fed to the wolves or used as a distraction for your better units. These should not be ignored as they do have a decent range and can turn the tide in a battle if used right but they won’t be your main focus.
Stormtrooper
Unlike their Star Wars counterparts, Stormtroopers in this game are actually very good units for close range combat. They can be hidden out of sight or put at the front of the line to clear out enemies, stormtroopers are difficult to get right but they can be a very useful tool if you can position them properly on the field.
Engineer
A difficult class to play as, the engineer is tasked with building strategic items throughout the battlefield. You can dig trenches, create spawn points, and place down sandbags, the engineer sets the table for both the attack and defence by setting things up for the other units to do their thing. The Engineer is almost an on-field captain and will take a great tactical mind to utulise properly.
Specialist
The specialist unit is your best anti-tank weapon, being equipped with a flamethrower to dole out damage. They can be used in a similar way to Stormtroopers with actual gunfights being a detriment to these units but the element of surprise and the correct use can be important.
Armored Cavalry
The tank. This is your big damage sponge that breaks the line and creates an opening for other units. This is the class you HAVE TO get right as they can force cracks in the wall of any enemy defence.
Heavy Gunner
These units are currently OP. The German specific class uses an overheating system instead of reloading, meaning they can spray you with bullets almost nonstop. When using the Heavy Gunner, you can set up a nest of them to stop flanking enemy attacks or snipers.
Sniper
Over the Top takes an interesting approach to Sniper’s. Unlike most games where they’re a defensive hidden unit, WW1 makes them a more tactical attacking unit. They can be used to sneak behind enemy lines and pick off their best officers. They are, of course, unable to defend themselves when caufht but that is the risk/reward of using this unit. Effective sniper tactics can be the best path to victory.
