Fortnite Records Lowest Player Count in 2 Years

Published on:

Fortnite has recently hit a 2-year record low of active players. This comes as a surprise as they’re currently hosting one of their largest Star Wars collaborations.

Typically, Fortnite reinvents itself with every major update ranging from new character interactions and mechanics, to collaborations with movies, entertainers and pop culture stars.

Is this the true decline of the definitive Battle Royale experience? Or is it a minor speed bump in the road towards future innovation in the genre?

Record Hitting Low

According to ActivePlayer, the current amount of active players is around 1,030,000 players. The last time this occurred was almost 2 years ago during their MEGA City event taking aspects of futuristic and traditional Tokyo, Japan.

May 2nd was the introduction of the latest Star Wars collaboration with Fortnite, with new events sprinkled in every week. Despite consecutive updates on a weekly basis, it has failed to retain even seasoned players.

The Star Wars collaboration comes to a head in the Death Star Sabotage event beginning June 7th. With the climax of the campaign fast approaching, player count will surely bounce back.

Fortnite was capable of reaching a concurrent player count of over 4,000,000 throughout late 2024 with their annual Winterfest campaign. While the current trend of player count would concern Epic Games, they’ve always found ways to keep players hooked. The team is likely hard at work to develop their next big campaign which will surely bring players back in waves.

While this seems like doom and gloom, most game developers could only dream of garnering such a dedicated fan base. In terms of Fortnite standards, these drop in statistics are alarming. But best believe these numbers are extremely healthy in the online landscape.
