Vellum Steam Deck Guide

Published on:

This Vellum Steam Deck review will discuss how the game plays on the portable console and how well it is optimised for such a port. Games on the Deck are a roller coaster with some porting perfectly and others being visually lacking, drains on the battery, or just not even launching. Vellum was a title in Early Access for some time but the fantasy shooter has been moved to a full 1.0 release on Steam and been met with a positive reception from players.

Vellum Steam Deck Performance Review

Over time Vellum has steadily improved its presence on the Steam Deck, even before the official 1.0 release there were some updates that brought significant performance boosts to the console.

The title launches without issue which is sometimes a problem for Deck ports. Smooth launching is usually a good sign that the game is properly optimised for the portable console. Vellum launches easily and sets the tone for how the game performs from there on out.

The game is only deemed as “playable” by Steam when it comes to the use of the Deck and it’ll immediately become clear why. The small text problem rears its head with this one. Usually, for older titles, launching on Deck often means that the in-game text will be too small to read or difficult to navigate if you’re required to click around. This issue also crops up in some newer releases like Vellum which has small text but doesn’t ruin the experience.

The game is visually solid on the Steam Deck. There was an update made which improved the experience at lower resolutions so even if you reduce the graphical output to save the battery the game looks pretty good and should remain playable with little visual lag.

Theere are no reports of the title crashing so it should sustain while in use.

Ultimately, Vellum is a good option on the portable console. It is playable, can scale to different graphical settings, and has constantly released updates to improve overall performance and playability both natively and on this console.
